1、 Basic Overview of Mechanical Seals
1. The concept of mechanical seals
Relatively speaking, the main purpose of mechanical seals is to solve the sealing problem between the shaft and the body. Through the coordination of auxiliary components, it is similar to other types of seals. It is mainly used to prevent the leakage of working media and is often used in shaft parts. Therefore, mechanical seals are also known as a universal shaft sealing device.
Compared to other mechanical seals, the sealing principle of end face seals is relatively simple. With the cooperation of the static and dynamic rings, a pair of friction pairs are formed to prevent the leakage of the working medium. This requires the static and dynamic rings to have good wear resistance. The basic components that make up the above sealing structure include static ring, dynamic ring, pressure cover, push ring, spring, positioning ring, shaft sleeve, dynamic ring sealing ring, static ring sealing ring, shaft sleeve sealing ring, and so on.
2、 The advantages and disadvantages of mechanical seals
In fact, any type of seal has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the reasons may be simple structure, good sealing performance, or good interchangeability, etc. But for mechanical seals, its advantages and disadvantages are equally obvious.
Advantages of mechanical seals
1. During long-term operation, its sealing structure is reliable and the sealing state is very stable. While ensuring that the surface roughness and flatness of the sealing surface meet the requirements, the leakage amount is very small.
2. Its service life is relatively long, generally reaching 1-2 years or even longer in oil and water media, and can also reach more than half a year in chemical media.
3. After the initial assembly is completed, there is no need for manual adjustment and compression, and the sealing pair can automatically maintain contact during operation.
4. Mechanical seals are widely applicable and can be used in high temperature, low temperature, high pressure and other situations, and are not sensitive to working media.
